What do you paddle?

That's an old Wavesport Forplay. I haven't done a whole lot of paddling and am still getting comfortable rolling in current. But it works quite well for an all around kayak.

I used to paddle a Wavesport XXX and Forplay (I worked at a shop, so I got the team deals). Blew my shoulder out three times paddling and another 10 times doing random shit. Pretty much killed my whitewater days. Now it's just flat water canoeing. Forplay is a good boat to learn on though. Keep it up. I miss it.

Team deals must be nice, new boats are so expensive. Bummer about your shoulder though, that many blowouts can't be good at all.

Boats have actually gotten a little cheaper since when I was paddling, but they are still a serious investment. I worked at this tiny little shop pretty much for the sole reason of the team deals.

I ended up having surgery (six inch open and three orthoscopics) and since then my shoulder has stayed in, but i've only got about 70% of range of motion in that arm. The single biggest piece of advice I can give you paddling is this: KEEP YOUR ELBOWS IN!!! If they ever get above your shoulder, you're gonna get hurt. Good form is the surest way to stay healthy and have a long paddling career.

Working at a resort or looking for permanent work once you get there? It's awesome out there, I worked at PCMR for a winter after graduating university. We lived in Heber about 1/2 hour south and it was nice. If possible stay on the east side of the mountains and avoid the SLC valley. When you get inversions the air is real nasty in SLC but clear and nice on the Park City side.

Good to know! I am still learning quite a bit and started out by rolling in a lake. Moving water is still quite frightening for me. I need to find a good slowish moving river to practice all the basics in without any worries

I'm pretty sure I got a job at a hotel, sounded like they needed me on the phone and said I was over qualified somehow. I'm excited though. I lived in SLC for a summer and it was nice but the pollution is real bad. I keep seeing places in prospector and those areas which would be great.

I am not. Although if I was I could probably get cheaper rent.

WOOOOOOO! I had to search if there was a track nearby and Miller Motorsports looks awesome. Any idea how much Auto X and Rally X there are in the area?

I'm super excited although my tires are wearing down so Snow tires might be in order in the near future

There's a bit, probably not as much as other states, but I'd probably start with Utah SCCA , there's a good amount of info there.

Miller is great fun. One of my goals for the near future is to take the NASA cour se they have out there. I think I'm gonna wait until I have a more suited car for that though, maybe in another year or so.

Thanks for the info! The NASA course is beyond me for sure. I do not have the money or the car for that. But it is definitely something to shoot for

I love Park City! Really nice people and great snow. I've been snowboarding there a few times. Though it's been awhile since I have been on a mountain. One of these days I'll come back.

I stayed in SLC a few times when boarding in Park City. SLC was interesting...I stayed at the Marriott right next to the big temple. No lie...I saw 5 weddings, in 5 days.

I wouldn't doubt it. I was a bit on the edge of town kinda near U of U. But I worked at a Lowe's and would see all these families with 12 kids running away; it was wild. Always really nice, but so many kids running everywhere.

the Porsche owners club puts on a few auto x a year...you don't need a Porsche to join, I did it in my forester a few years ago. There is wide open Wednesday at the track and there are endless parking lots. If you bike and are looking for some ride, or need to find some good driving roads, hit me up, in just down in the valley but i have family that lives up there.

If you like hockey the Utah Grizzlies are pretty fun to watch. We would buy the cheapest tickets we could find and then sit wherever we wanted because there were always lots of empty seats even in the lower bowl. Not sure if they still let you get away with that or not, but its good hockey either way.

If you're looking for food the Red Iguana in SLC is the place to go for Mexican. Very good food there. And the Hub in Heber has good homemade pie. We would stop there on the way home from work on paydays.

It is also worth a trip up to Powder Mountain. We only made it there once when we were out there, but the skiing is great. The hill is pretty small, but just an awesome place. The base area is total local hill with no hotels or stores or anything. There is a cafeteria for food and that's about it. The hill is great, and you've pretty much got free reign to ski wherever you want there.

I hear powder mountain is awesome and will be trying to make it there on a good powder day if my brother and I can get work off at the same time. He also said that the hockey games are a blast. Apparently the team in Park city you can bring your own beer in
